\"2015Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc. in a unique partnership with the literacy organization Success Won\u2019t Wait, Inc.<\/a>, recently provided over 150 books to Title 1 students as part of the ongoing\u00a0\u201cReading is Basic Program.\u201d In 2011, Back to Basics launched \u00a0the program and since its inception, Reading is Basic\u00a0has provided over 3,000 books to Title 1 schoolchildren in grades K-8.<\/p>\n

This partnership links together two organizations with a common quest: to eradicate illiteracy in the State of Nationwide and to provide the educational tools for success to those who need them most.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt Back to Basics, we strongly believe in supporting our local community, particularly in the area of literacy, which is the basic building block of education,\u201d explains Back to Basics\u2019 Director Beverly Stewart, M.Ed. \u201cIn fact, the Reading is Basic program is only one of several joint efforts between Back to Basics and Success Won\u2019t Wait. Other literacy projects have included book drives at our Educational Facility in Wilmington, as well as the delivery of hundreds of children\u2019s book baskets throughout the state, containing thousands of children\u2019s books.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently, Back to Basics services over 150 Title I students from the Red Clay, Colonial, Brandywine, Smyrna, and Appoquinimink school districts for supplemental instruction. Using book donations from Success Won\u2019t Wait\u2019s collection, Back to Basics makes the age-appropriate books available to these students, which they can take home and keep.<\/p>\n

The Reading is Basic project was created in response to literacy statistics that rank access to reading materials as one of the most important predictors of a child\u2019s future reading success. According to Sanford Newman in his book American\u2019s Child Care Crisis: A Crime Prevention Tragedy, \u201c\u201cThe most successful way to improve the reading achievement of low-income children is to increase their access to print. Communities ranking high in achievement tests have several factors in common: an abundance of books in public libraries, easy access to books in the community at large and a large number of textbooks per student.\u201d<\/p>\n
