Even if it&#8217;s not an activity you would have selected, be enthused. Research it. And, <em>you<\/em> just may learn something, too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ready, set, <em>goal!<\/em><\/strong> Goal setting is essential to success, no matter what the endeavor.\u00a0Learning to accept responsibility for both success and failure is a crucial life skill \u2014 and\u00a0goal setting puts the power directly into a child\u2019s hands.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hard at work.<\/strong> Teaching kids exactly how hard work and achievement are <em>related<\/em> should start when children are quite young. <em>Emphasizing the importance\u00a0of\u00a0hard work<\/em>, not just the achievement, however, is essential for self-esteem building.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make a commitment.<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Encourage<\/em> your child to see an activity through and not quit just because the going gets hard. However, trying to <em>force them<\/em> may only develop anxiety that could make them even more reluctant to try other new experiences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Take a chance!<\/strong> Encourage children to take intellectual risks and learn from their mistakes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Offer kids new experiences and opportunities.<\/strong> Let your children try different sports, extra-curricular activities, and classes.
