Take three minutes to think about the prompt. If needed, divide the prompt into phrases and look at each aspect. Why would the admissions officers ask this prompt? What do you think they want to know? How does that information relate to your ability to excel in college?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/college.usatoday.com\/2014\/10\/23\/9-essay-writing-tips-to-wow-college-admissions-officers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a>: &#8220;Put yourself in the school\u2019s position. At the end of the day, colleges want to accept someone who is going to graduate, be successful in the world and have the university associated with that success. In your essay, it is vital that you present yourself as someone who loves to learn, can think critically and has a passion for things\u2014anything.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bigfuture.collegeboard.org\/get-in\/essays\/8-tips-for-crafting-your-best-college-essay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The College Board<\/a>: &#8220;Give your essay focus by figuring out how the question relates to your personal qualities and then taking a specific angle. Make sure everything you write supports that viewpoint.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.princetonreview.com\/college-advice\/college-essay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Princeton Review<\/a>: &#8220;Don&#8217;t just recount\u2014reflect!\u00a0Anyone can write about how they won the big game or the summer they spent in Rome. When recalling these events, you need to give more than the play-by-play or itinerary. Describe what you learned from the experience and how it changed you.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/greatcollegeadvice.com\/how-to-write-the-perfect-college-essay-grab-some-attention\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Great College Advice<\/a>: &#8220;Grab some attention.\u00a0As you write your college essay, you have to consider your audience. You have to remind yourself that the poor, tired admissions officer who is reading it may have read 50 other essays in the preview nine hours. He is tired. He is cold (it\u2019s the dead of winter and he is huddled up next to his electric space heater. He is bored stiff.\u00a0So you have to do something to wake him up. Grab his attention.
