However, a persistent feeling that \u201csomething is off\u201d is an indicator that testing is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is, that once an evaluation is completed, a report will yield crucial, detailed information about the child\u2019s strengths, weaknesses, and neurological development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the testing process?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A specialist looks for a pattern of strengths and weaknesses that emerge across the span of several tests.<\/p>\n<p>After the evaluations, recommendations will be made to parents and educators regarding the best teaching methods and educational environment for the student to reach his or her full potential.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What tests are available and what do they evaluate?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>I.Q.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0An Intelligence Quotient indicates a person\u2019s mental abilities relative to others of approximately the same age. According to MENSA UK, \u201cThe term IQ usually refers to the attempt to measure a person\u2019s mental agility. There are many standard IQ tests in use around the world. On most intelligence tests, average IQ score is 100.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Academic Achievement Levels (by grade level and age level).<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Academic achievement tests are standardized and measure a student\u2019s progress and achievements. A variety of academic achievement tests are used for different states and at different levels of education.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Visual-Motor.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0The test is used to evaluate \u201cvisual-motor maturity,\u201d to screen for developmental disorders or to assess neurological function or brain damage.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Learning Disability and Giftedness Screening.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Screening is the first step in the process of gathering relevant information about an individual. Screening does not determine whether or not the person has a learning disability or giftedness. It may include observations, informal interviews, the use of a written tool or a review of medical, school or work histories.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Attention Deficit Disorder Screening.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Because there\u2019s no clinical test that can detect ADHD, a diagnosis depends on a complete evaluation by psychiatrists or psychologists.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Verbal and Visual Memory.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0A verbal reasoning test is a form of aptitude test used by interviewers to find out how well a candidate can assess verbal logic. A visual field test maps out what the world looks like to the individual.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Visual and Auditory Perception.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Perceptual tests are among the most frequently administered clinical instruments.
