Now in its 25th year, Make A Difference Day is the largest day of community service in the nation.<\/p>\n<p><em>And, it&#8217;s the perfect opportunity to introduce volunteerism to children of all ages!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sponsored by the\u00a0TEGNA Foundation, participants are eligible for several awards.\u00a0Each year, TEGNA awards $140,000 in grants to 14\u00a0honorees chosen by a distinguished panel of judges. Award winners designate the grant money to a charity of their choice.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>10 National Award Winners<\/strong><br \/>\nThese are 10 projects that go above and beyond in finding a need in their communities and completing a project to tackle that need.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"award-type\"><strong>3 Community Award Winners<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nA project or projects that is\/are organized or supported by local government and\/or local mayor. First, ask yourself these three questions:<\/p>\n<p><em><b>What is my child\u2019s passion?<\/b><\/em> Books? Sports? Animals? There are community service options to address absolutely <i>every<\/i> interest. From walk-a-thons, to beach clean-ups, to performing at local senior centers, finding the <em>right match<\/em>\u00a0for his project is crucial to help him\u00a0develop a love of serving others.<\/p>\n<p><em><b>What are my child\u2019s abilities?<\/b><\/em>\u00a0Its easy to overcommit when you are enthusiastic, so set some limits to start.<\/p>\n<p><em><b>What about the time commitment?<\/b><\/em>\u00a0Start slow. Let your student\u00a0pick a project this year and finish it.
