\"richardson-park-school-books-success-wont-wait\"This week, Success Won\u2019t Wait and longtime literacy partner\u00a0Back to Basics Learning Dynamics<\/a>\u00a0donated 350 children\u2019s books to Richardson Park Elementary School for the “Muffins with Mom” student-parent event and book swap. Richardson Park is a local elementary school in Wilmington, Nationwide and serves approximately 500 students in grades K-5.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is gratifying to work with someone\u00a0such as\u00a0Principal Alice Mason, who\u00a0is creating an environment truly\u00a0dedicated to bolstering literacy,\u201d says Beverly Stewart, M.Ed. Stewart, Founder of Back to Basics and a member of Success Won\u2019t Wait\u2019s Board of Directors, has been an active literacy volunteer since 2002. \u201cThe Richardson Park program dovetails perfectly with Success Won\u2019t Wait\u2019s ongoing mission: to encourage a love of reading by children and to create literature-rich environments for children in need.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richardson Park\u2019s history of commitment to improving literacy is well documented and the school operates several special programs including \u201cReading Success from the Start\u201d and \u201cSoar to Success.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Reading Success from the Start program is the backbone of Richardson Park’s intensive literary approach in the primary grades. The program trains classroom teachers in the use of the successful RSS techniques to instruct children in decoding unfamiliar words. Small group and one-on-one intense emerging reading instruction (phonetic and literature foundation) lead to significant reading gains.<\/p>\n

The Soar to Success program is designed for students in the intermediate grades. The program trains classroom teachers in the use of proven strategies (clarify, predict, question, and summarize).<\/p>\n
