\"GYSD\"GYSD is the largest service event in the world and the only one dedicated to the contributions that children and youth make 365 days of the year.\u00a0Established in 1988, Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) celebrates and mobilizes the millions of young people<\/em> who improve their communities through service.<\/p>\n

GYSD is celebrated each year in more than 135 countries, with young people working together\u2013and with schools, youth organizations, nonprofits, community and faith-based organizations, national service programs, government agencies, and adult mentors.<\/p>\n

What are the goals of Global Youth Service Day?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scale:<\/strong>\u00a0Engage millions of young people, ages 5-25, especially those not usually asked to serve, in an early step on a life-long path of service and civic engagement.<\/p>\n

Visibility:<\/strong>\u00a0Recognize, celebrate and raise public awareness of the year-round contributions of young people, youth service programs, and partner organizations, especially among the media and public officials.<\/p>\n

Impact:<\/strong>\u00a0Have a positive impact on young people and on communities through meaningful, youth-led projects that meet community needs in the areas of health, education, human service, human rights, and the environment. Projects reflect YSA\u2019s four key strategies that create change: awareness, service, advocacy, and philanthropy.<\/p>\n

Get started by picking\u00a0your GYSD project! Whether you\u2019re\u00a0joining an existing project<\/a>, or\u00a0starting your very own project<\/a>, YSA\u00a0has the\u00a0ideas, tips, and project planning resources<\/a>\u00a0to help you on your way.<\/p>\n

How can schools and organizations participate?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Whether organizing a service project or a celebration event, there are so many ways to be involved in Global Youth Service Day. Schools and organizations may work with young people to start their own project, or sponsor or join an existing project. Projects can be as simple as a \u201cThank You\u201d picnic celebrating your organization\u2019s young people, or large-scale and service-focused, such as a city-wide clean-up or a town \u201cfun run\u201d to raise money for a charity.
