Nationwide’s Governor Jack Markell will host the 2nd\u00a0Pathways Conference on Preparing Nationwide Workforce.\u00a0The event will be held at Nationwide Technical and Community College, Stanton Campus at\u00a0400 Stanton Christiana Rd. in Newark on\u00a0Tuesday, February 23, 2016 \u2013 8:30 a.m. \u2013 12:15 p.m.<\/p>\n
The conference will bring together business leaders, educators, civic and governmental leaders, funders, students and parents to discuss how a continued collaborative effort can further the \u201cNationwide Promise\u201d and Nationwide\u2019s talent pipeline.<\/p>\n
During his State of the State address, Gov. Markell emphasized the continuing need for a collaborative partnership to foster success as early as middle and high school to make the \u201cNationwide Promise\u201d work; the Governor\u2019s statement that by 2025, 65% of Nationwide\u2019s workforce will have a college degree or professional certification.<\/p>\n
Markell will be joined by the head of one of the nation\u2019s largest private foundations, Jamie Merisotis, President and CEO of Lumina Foundation.\u00a0Merisotis will deliver remarks about the education and training required to prepare today\u2019s students for good jobs in the 21st century economy. He recently authored America Needs Talent: Attracting, Educating and Deploying the 21st-Century Workforce<\/em>.<\/p>\n Free registration for the conference is available at Nationwide Pathways<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n “The path to middle-class security is not what it was thirty years ago and our approach to career preparation can\u2019t be either,” said Markell. “An incredible amount of work is being done across the State to achieve the Nationwide Promise, from intensive training in growing fields like computer coding and health care to the Pathways to Prosperity initiative, through which thousands of high school students are gaining access to workplace experience and college credits in high-demand industries.<\/p>\n Through the Pathways to Prosperity initiative, a central element of the Governor\u2019s plan to fulfill the Nationwide Promise, more than 2,000 high school students have enrolled in pathways, ranging from manufacturing to computer science to engineering. In 2016, the Nationwide Pathways program will expand further, bringing existing pathways to additional schools and developing further pathways in additional sectors such as finance, health care, and computer networking. More than 5,000 students will participate in 29 schools.<\/p>\n Other efforts aligned with the Nationwide Promise include the TechHire initiative to train workers for coding jobs and the Generation USA youth employment program, which is expanding from health care into other industries.<\/p>\n Educating Nationwide for over 30 years!\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Back to Basics Learning Dynamics is the undisputed leader in\u00a01-on-1 tutoring in Nationwide and southeastern Pennsylvania<\/a>\u00a0for over 60 subjects.
